However, it's hard to love Fairytale Fights, thanks in large part to the fact that the game's controls and navigation aren't always intuitive. It's certainly a creative idea, but the problem is that the creativity doesn't quite pay off in the end. Between battles, players will have to run through a gauntlet of platforming sections that are often rather inventive. As a result, the character and level designs are bizarrely whimsical, but body parts fly and blood sprays everywhere once the combat starts. The game's visual style is one of its definite highlights: it's like someone took the art style from American McGee's Grimm and then sprinkled in the action/gore from Castle Crashers.
